At this time I was asked to do awards at both the Baronial and Kingdom level to be handed out at our Baronial Birthday. This was a Stierbach Award of the Silver Heart for Master Ii. This one was tricky as I do not know Japanese. However, I enlisted the aid of his wife, Mistress Abe, who in turn asked a friend of theirs to help, Baron Foro. I drew the artwork and wrote roughly what I needed the script to say. Through a series of cloak and dagger, I passed the scroll off to Mistress Abe who got the writing from Baron Foro. She put the calligraphy on, got it back to me through more cloak and dagger, and then I painted. Master Ii was completely unaware and very surprised in court when his wife started to read this to him. It was my first attempt at Japanese, the crane coming from a very famous scroll painting, but it will not be my last! Gouche, Japanese pearl pigment, and ink on pergamenta. This was a Baronial Award, The Order of Saint Roche done for Lee of Stierbach. Both the illumination and calligraphy were taken from The Prayer Book of Michelino da Besozzo. Gouche, ink, and gold leaf on Bristol board. Originally intended to be awarded at Ruby Joust, this was an Atlantian King's Missiliers awarded to Lady Johanna. It was based on an image from the Taymouth Hours as was the calligraphy (late 1300's, early 1400's.). Gouache, ink, and gold leaf on Bristol board. An Atlantian Award of Arms for Lord William. The illumination was taken from the Codex Manesse (1300's, Zurich). The calligraphy was taken from Droghin's and is Textura Quadrata.
