Her Excellency approached me to do two Baronial Awards for the Birthday event. First was an Order of the Silver Bow for Archery to go to Alexandria of Stierbach. The big specification was that it should be pretty. One of her primary periods is the Tudor era so I went looking for something I thought might fit.. I had been meaning to try my hand at cadels, this was my first attempt. I think it came out alright, though I want to practice more cadels before my next one. The hand was a combination of secretary and batarde taken from the exemplar http://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/btv1b550024840/f48.item I was also asked to do an Order of the Silver Glove (A Stierbach Rapier award) for Obbi inn Bleiki . He is Norse, of the Viking period. So my choice was to attempt to plot out a knotwork design around the badge of the award within a Thor's hammer with the writing around it in Danish and Norse runes.

Since I've become Minister of Arts and Sciences for Stierbach, on our Baronial Birthday, I try to do 12 bookmarks for the Dirty Dozen. Mine are not entered into the competition as I'm running it, but they are included in the prizes and added to the largesse basket for the Baron and Baroness to hand out.
This year, I decided to use the Breviary of Isabella of Castille as my inspiration (and an excuse to practice the drop shadows more... ). I will also be using the exemplar and the idea of bookmarks to teach the drop shadows at Fall University in Atlantia this year. One of my younger sisters approached me about a commission as a surprise for her husband, but technically as a gift to them both. She wanted a dragon and a unicorn on it as those were on their wedding goblets, and "pretty", plus their vows. I know her love of things Celtic, so I went with knotwork. The finished piece was hand drawn on a sketch pad, then transferred onto drafting paper before ending up on the pergamenta. I used gouache and Higgins ink to get the look she was wanting, and Insular Majuscule for the hand.
