A friend of mine had two backlogs in the system. For Christmas, I determined I would help eliminate some of the backlog and make sure she got her scrolls. The first one happened to also fit the bill for a competition held at Atlantia's Fall Crown List, and she said to go ahead and enter it. I won! My prize was a lovely piece of black parchment from Master Tristan. I used pergamenta, to fit an 8"x10" frame with an inch border for matting. A quill was used with iron oak gall ink. I used gouache and finetec instead of period pigments and shell gold. The colors were based off the digital facsimile from the British Library (http://www.bl.uk/manuscripts/Viewer.aspx?ref=add_ms_34294_f001r ) Folio f.30v.

Mistress Michel opened an art trade celebrating the Treaty of Etaples. Participants were drawn randomly, and were to create an item for the person selected based on whether they declared for England or for France, and from about the time of 1492. The lady who was selected for me declared for France, loves to cook, and has an Italian persona about the same time as the trade. With some guidance from Mistress Michel, it was decided that I should work on a book, with recipes and some blank pages for her to write her own favorites. I selected 15 recipes in Olde English, French, and Italian. Using pergamenta for the pages, I calligraphed the recipes, adding illuminations where I thought they should go. Each page is about 3" x 4". Iron oak gall ink was used, added with a quill. For the paint, I did use gouache and finetec gold instead of period pigments and shell gold. It was my first attempt at binding... and I did not get pictures of that.. but it was wrapped in a cognac colored leather.
