The wonderful woman I did this for is also a scribe. I'm always more nervous when I do scrolls for other scribes because I really want them to like it. One of my favorite manuscripts is one often called the London Rothschild Hours, or The Hours of Joanna I of Castile, from about 1500. I love all the pearls in it, the gems, the touches and flashes of gold. I selected folio 236r. The finished size was 8"x10" with at least a 1 1/2" border all round.
The materials I used were: Perg, gouache, finetec, and Higgins ink. The calligraphy was also pulled from the exemplar. Below are in progress and closeups. (Again, there was something wrong with the memory card in my camera).
